We had dinner at this popular fusion Asian cuisine restaurant during our recent trip to Launceston. We ordered the pork skewers, curry stir-fried seafood, stir-fried gay-lan or Chinese broccoli veggie, and shared cendol pannacotta for dessert. The dishes on the menu are creative modern interpretation of Indonesian and Thai cuisines, but not all of them were good for us. Our favorite was the pork skewers and curry seafood, though the curry sauce was a bit too salty for our palette. The place's ambience is good and you can have nice meal with your family / friends in relaxing atmosphere. Customer service is good and attentive, though we waited quite long for our order to arrive since it was full house busy evening. Seat reservation is recommended for dining here, especially during busy holiday period. Prices on the menu are premium, but reasonable for quality ingredients used and cooking creativity points. You can pay with all type of credit cards with additional payment surcharge of up to 1.6%.
Their Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice) is the best Indonesian Fried Rice iโve ever tried so far absolutely must try! This restaurant is kinda Asian fusion between Indonesian and Thailand. Pork Belly is great too crunchy deep fried and flavourful. Rendang taste a bit more like Malaysian Rendang. Balinese Pork Skewers is authentic. Chicken Karaage is ok. Cendol Pannacotta is perfect dessert. But so far the service is incredible. Edwin and the owner is extremely friendly. Definitely best Indonesian restaurant in Launceston โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ๐ซถ๐ป๐ซถ๐ป๐ซถ๐ป
We went back a second time to confirm the wonderful food and friendly service. A new, up and coming restaurant that is pulling out all the stops to ensure it will become a firm favourite in a fickle industry. We came away very impressed with the lively flavours and quirky spin on Asian cuisine. Loved the jungle curry green mussels and the fried noodles with rich roasted bone marrow - brilliant! Desserts were gorgeous. Special shout out to the earthy rich banana and chocolate pudding and the cendol panna cotta with pandan jelly, gula melaka syrup and jackfruit compote. Staff couldnโt be kinder. We also noticed how happy and respectful they were with each other. Shine on Kawan Dining! Youโve got this.
Ate here about 3 weeks back and Iโve had to revise my opinion about Asian restaurants in small cities/towns in Australiaโฆ This restaurant was awesome! Indonesian fusion food that really works (thatโs saying something as Iโm a bit of a purist). The porterhouse drunken noodles were a great example of this fusion. The steak itself was really nice, but when combined with the spices mixed with the underlying noodles and veggies, it was something special. The special menu dumplings and Nasi goreng were also delicious. Fantastic friendly service. We didnโt make a booking and they kindly accommodated us by giving us a call when a table got freed up. Despite how busy they were, they always checked in if everything was alright. As they were quite busy, it was a bit slow but you get to savour your food more. Iโve sort of learned to avoid (or at least not expect much) from small town Asian places (spoiled by living in Sydney), but I would definitely dine here again and recommend it to friends and family.
Tried the new Asian restaurant in Launceston โ and it did not disappoint! Friendly service with big smiles, quick meals, and seriously tasty food. The highlights for me: Nasi Goreng, Mie Goreng Bone Marrow, and the beautiful Cendol Pannacotta for dessert.
