Enjoyed delicious pork braised rice and malatang. It’s so nice to have hotpot in winter. The business is run by a young man and his family, with good service and surprisingly fast serving time.

There’s something quietly comforting about a bowl of mala tang on a cold winter’s day. You walk in, grab a pair of tongs and a humble plastic bowl — then begin your little adventure. Leafy greens, sliced meats, tofu, mushrooms… whatever speaks to your cravings. It’s all pay-by-weight, which makes the whole process feel a bit like building your own story, one ingredient at a time. You can choose between the spicy soup version or a dry-style mala, and adjust the heat level to your liking. The fried side dishes are simple, budget-friendly, and add a nice crunch. There’s also chilli oil, soy sauce, and black vinegar on the side, just enough to let you customise but not overwhelm. While the menu isn’t overly extensive, there’s heart in what they offer — from warm bentos to crisp fried treats. You can tell the owner is trying to balance variety with quality, which is something I genuinely respect. Not the fanciest spot, not the most perfect — but definitely a place I’ll return to whenever I crave that familiar, fiery warmth.

I could say I come here A LOT! The Malatang soup is incredibly tasty and thick, which I couldn’t find at another places (even in mainland!). They have the best bone broth around. If you’re not in the mood of drinking soup, the dry one is good as well and if you’re in the mood of eating rice, I would recommend the yummy crispy duck rice! They also come with reasonable prices and they don’t have minimum weight for the ingredients, so you can suit yourself! (Update: they have minimum $12 per one bowl, but it’s still affordable anyway) Writing this review is making me hungry! I’ll come back in a few days 😚
