Paper plate is a great restaurant. Amazing atmosphere, and very tasty food. Everything was fresh and visually appealing. Theyโre also attentive from taking orders to filling up water. A pleasant surprise- everything (except the pork) is halal! Suggest to book in advance to guarantee a seat.
I recently visited a Vietnamese restaurant and was genuinely impressed by the entire experience. The food tasted incredibly fresh, with each dish carrying rich and authentic flavors. I especially loved how the herbs and spices were perfectly balanced, making even simple dishes feel special. The portions were generous without being overwhelming. The atmosphere of the restaurant was warm and cozy, giving me a comfortable feeling the moment I walked in. Soft background music and subtle dรฉcor added to the overall charm. The staff were also very friendly and attentive, always checking in without being intrusive. They explained the menu clearly and gave great recommendations. Service was fast, yet everything felt carefully prepared. Overall, it was a wonderful meal from start to finish. I enjoyed it so much that I can definitely see myself coming back many more times.
We were looking for a hearty pho on a cool evening and expected good Vietnamese food in Richmond. We found Paper Plate with good ratings, but I would personally not recommend the Beef Pho. Most of my friend's pho was left untouched at the end of the meal as we did not find it enjoyable. We both found the pho to have an unusual sour taste, so much so that we did not use the lemon slices provided, which I usually use. The temperature of the soup was not hot enough (this was not due to sitting outside), compared to other pho I have enjoyed in Springvale. Split bill is available, though we almost paid for an extra pho as this was not removed from the bill when we cancelled the order earlier. Toilet was available too. Can't commend on the modern dishes as I did not try these. Staff were friendly and turned on the outdoor heater without us requesting.
Great dining experience. Great food, excellent service, and beautiful ambience. Lamb ribs: so tender and juicy, sweet and sticky. I could devour 10 plates of this. Seared scallops: great texture, nicely char grilled at the bottom. Caramelized chicken wings: super tasty with a light crunch outside and tender meat inside. Pork belly bao buns: flavour wasn't as strong but the bao was very soft and fluffy. Caramelized pork belly clay pot: absolutely to die for. We all thought the pork was tofu at first, it was so soft. Melts in your mouth, no need for chewing! I'd come back just for this dish. Beef short ribs: like the lamb ribs, very well done and delicious. Lamb shank curry: but disappointing. The meat was great but the sauce wasn't punchy. Just not enough flavour. Overall very happy, especially since the food came out very quickly - always a bonus in my books! Good value.
Had lunch at Paper Plate & opted for the chefโs menu ($66pp) which included a series of well-curated dishes: pork belly rice paper rolls to start, shredded chicken salad, seared scallops on betel leaf, slow-cooked beef short ribs served with fried rice, and desserts of pandan crรจme brรปlรฉe & coconut tapioca pudding. Most dishes were beautifully presented and full of flavour - the standout for me was the incredibly tender beef ribs paired with a sweet ginger dressing. The pandan crรจme brรปlรฉe was also a highlight, delicately creamy with a lovely hint of pandan. The Vietnamese drip coffee was rich and satisfyingly bitter. The only real miss was the fried rice, which tasted quite bland, and it felt a little odd having the salad served on its own rather than alongside the mains. That said, the overall dining experience was excellent - the staff were warm & attentive, and the space was filled with quirky, Vietnamese-themed decor that added a lot of charm.
