Food and service were amazing! We loved every dish we tried! The wagu tartare (not pictured) was unreal! The barramundi was delicious, however SUPER spicy so would not recommend if you are not good with spice.
Sum Yung Guys has a great atmosphere and a fun, lively vibe, and the flavours are well thought out and nicely executed. The food is tasty and well presented, and the menu is interesting and creative. However, portion sizes are on the smaller side for the price, which makes it feel a bit expensive overall. Service is generally good, though the experience can feel rushed when itโs busy. Worth trying for the flavours and vibe, but better value would make it more enjoyable.
We got the kingfish starter, prawn toast, short ribs, and chicken. Plus we added roti. Overall, it's a very uneven menu. The kingfish was incredibly fresh and tasty but the portion is small. I would treat this as an amuse bouche. The prawn toast is very average if not disappointing. It tastes like a deep fried fish cake. The short ribs are deep fried and lose their beef flavor. It's a waste of good short rib and the portion doesn't justify the price either. The best dish by far was the peanut chicken. Incredible flavor, juicy chicken, and good portion for two people. Fair warning though it's VERY rich and fatty but well worth it. This dish is the only reason I'm giving the restaurant a 4/5 instead of 3/5. Lastly, the roti is absolutely nuked in deep fryer. We thought it would be lighter and more of a baked consistency. We sent it back and it was removed from the bill, no questions asked, which we appreciated.
We had a sumptuous lunch with my family. The main dishes were splendid and a great fusion of flavors . I am amazed on how the plating and serving was. Overall the food was amazing. We just had some miscommunication with our rice . As asians rice is life. lol. They served us with two small bowls of rice at first and said it was the one with our order. We followed up and asked again with our rice as we are half way eating and it was not enough so we had to paused and wait for it and asked again, it was served but we lost our peak of eating already and ended up with take away rice lol. They were kind enough not to charge us for the additional rice because of the miscommunication . Maybe kindly tell your food attendant not to mix your rice bowls together without asking the customers so that they will serve individually in a normal bowl . The issue was attended fairly and professionally so itโs a thumbs up with the management for the resolution. Thank you and may we learn from this.
One of the best restaurants on the Sunshine Coast by a long way. Contemporary Asian cuisine in a stylish, modern setting with excellent service and a great cocktail list (including some fantastic non-alcoholic options). Weโve celebrated a few birthdays here and the team always goes to a lovely bit of extra effort, which makes it feel really special. The food is consistently outstanding; authentic in both flavour and ingredients. The duck is spicy but absolutely worth ordering if you enjoy bold, traditional dishes. The betel leaf rice cake with fresh apple is to die for, and the roti bread is next-level (a must-order if you can eat gluten!). You can really tell how much care goes into every dish; the herbs and lettuce with the spring rolls were beautifully presented and thoughtfully paired. Their current smoked eggplant dish is unforgettable in flavor and texture; Iโve been thinking about it ever since we dined there last week ๐คค Highly recommend ordering a range of dishes to share with the table; you really canโt go wrong here! Or engage with the staff - theyโll do a really good job of explaining the menu. This is a must try!
