One of the three new upmarket Chinese restaurants that are newly open that i like to try, its a bit out of my usual zone. We arrive at the location without noticing the actual restaurant, it hasn't got ant noticeable signage. the restaurant is nicely appointed, modern spacious and feel warm. Food is good and service is a bit stretch with only two on the floor, the dishes are serve without consideration, with main come out before entree, Peking Duck, Lobster with ginger and shallots with noodle are a must. Win list is good with a lot of Finch wine at a reasonable price.
Real Authentic Cantonese Cuisine was amazingly delicious and wonderful. Every dish was excellent, the Abalone and sea cucumber was very nice. Lobster e-fu noodles were just right and lobster very tender. Emerald Tofu was so soft inside and crispy outside. Very happy we ate here, 10 of us as a big family strongly recommended
Really enjoyed everything we got here! The ambience and service is really lovely, great spot for a family dinner in a more formal setting. Approved by family! The sweet and sour pork is the must order! Super crispy. The fried rice and lobster toast was also yum Would recommend and come back here :)
Decided to try this restaurant for lunch and my goodness, we had the best experience. We had Yum Char and they were good. The dumplings were freshly made and textures were excellent. We finished up our lunch with the freshly made mango pancakes and they were delicious. Overall food was excellent coupled with excellent service, dining room ambience and nice decor, and the sound of kitchen cooking up your meals made our experience a fantastic one.
(3.5 stars) Wan’s Cantonese is part of the cluster of new upmarket Chinese restaurants that have popped up in the last year. You might recognise its architectural bones from previous reviews for Soi 25, Appethai, and before that, Spice I Am. It’s the first time in my memory that this 120-seat Darlinghurst restaurant has been Cantonese. The switch from Thai has come with a nice timber and marble update inside. The menu centres upon classic Cantonese dishes, delivered for a higher-than-average price. For the extra coin you get premium produce. The XO pipis ($58/500grams) weren’t noticeably better than other pipis around town, albeit with less broken shells. Mongolian lamb ($43) didn’t justify the extra spend. While the lamb might have been better quality than most, the at-the-table cooking method lost the allure of sizzling onions with a skillet that just wasn’t hot enough. It was also too sweet. Seasonal Chinese greens ($25) were crisp but not so good as to eclipse any you might have eaten for a lesser price. Yangzhou BBQ pork fried rice ($25) was too stingy on the namesake ingredient. I prefer the cheap version where they leave it as a slice you casually manoeuvre into your serve. Where Wan’s did do a better job than other Cantonese restaurants was in the toothsome prawn wontons ($26/6) encased in silky skins dripping with peanut sauce flecked with dried chilli. XO duck dumplings ($18.60/4) also impressed, while very sticky, the plump trio we expanded to a quartet were filled with a mixture that shouted roast duck. The wine list included some cuisine appropriate entries, like the 2024 Rustenberg Stellenbosch Chenin Blanc ($70) for a straight double of what you’d pay to drink it at home. The floor team weren’t particularly slick, but they do operate under the principle of making the customer feel king. No feelings escaped when the lady at the next table asked for ice cubes in her wine.
